Well, how much profit he makes has to do with how much he can sell a cord for, too. Splitting and hauling that much wood will sure build character!
OK, the value of this depends on what type of oak it is, and whether its green wood or dry. Here's some information from the web with 3 types of oak, and the weight range of a dry cord, and the weight range of a green cord (the first numbers are btu's):
Oak, Black 25.8 - 27.4 2821 - 3625# 4450 - 5725#
Oak, Live 34.4 - 36.6 3766 - 4840# 6120 - 7870#
Oak, White 26.4 - 28.0 2880 - 3710# 4890 - 6290#
So, if it was green, Live Oak, and weighed as much as 7870 pounds, it's conceivable he might get as little as roughly 1 1/2 cord out of it. If it was dry Black or White Oak, he might get 4 cords. That gives you some numbers to play with, and your son can figure if this sounds worthwhile. He'll probably want to find out a little more about the wood first.
